Dimitris Handrakis   Violin

 

Born in Thessaloniki-Greece in 1965.

Founder member of the New Hellenic Quartet,

he studied the violin at the Thessaloniki State Conservatory under Kosmas Galileas and at the Vienna Music Academy under G. Pichler He graduated in 1988.

He has appeared as a soloist with all major Greek orchestras.

From 1996 until 2003, he was konzertmeister of the Thessaloniki State Orchestra.

His Discography includes all string quartets by Nikos Skalkottas, Giorgos Sicilianos, Mikis Theodorakis, Filippos Tsalachouris as well as the early string quartets by Carl Nielsen and the main chamber music works for string quartet by O.Respighi

He teaches at the Thessaloniki State Conservatory since 1993 and at the University “Makedonia” ofThessaloniki since 2002.
