Zoi Tsokanou -
piano
Zoi Tsokanou was born in Thessaloniki and began playing the piano at the age of four. She studied piano at the Synchrono
Conservatory with Lambis Vassiliadis and music theory at the State Conservatory in Thessaloniki. She passed her piano
diploma with excellence and won the first prize of the Synchrono Conservatory. She holds further diplomas in harmony,
counterpoint and fugue and studied at the Department of Musicology at the Aristotle University Thessaloniki.
In 2003 she continued studying the piano at the Music Academy Zurich in the concert class of Konstantin Sherbakov.
She passed her concert diploma in June 2006.
She attended master classes given by Paul Badura Scoda, Peter Feuchtwanger, Victor Merzhanov, Jerome Rose and others
and took part in a number of competitions. She won second prize at the Landolt competition for Contemporary Music in
Zurich in 2004. She has given successful solo and chamber music concerts in Greece, Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
She is a member of the Chroma Piano Quartett and improvises on the piano for the Helvetian Improvisation Theatre. She
plays in a duo with the flutist Murat Cevik since 2004. Today she continues her musical studies in the conductor’s class of
Johannes Schlaefli at the University of Arts in Zürich. In summer 2007 she was musical assistant for the Swiss premiere of
the chamber opera ``Drei Wasserspiele`` from Detlev Glanert.
She works as a piano instructor at various institutes and music schools and assisted Prof. Lambis Vassiliadis during the
International Music Days Brache in 2005 and 2006.
